Hair Loss After Pregnancy
Most women have enough to deal with before and after they give birth such as bloating, weight gain, possible hemorrhoids, and temporary memory loss. Then after giving birth women have to deal with a severe loss of sleep, bleeding, postpartum and water retention. However, one of the most surprising thing is hair loss after pregnancy, but in most cases this occurrence is totally normal.
This occurrence begins long before the baby is born. For some reason, females find that they have fuller and softer hair when they are pregnant. One of the reasons why this can occur is that the hair does not fall out as much as it normally does. In fact, the hair grows faster thanks to pregnancy hormones and prenatal supplements. So many women are surprised by their hair falling out after pregnancy because they did not notice that they were not losing as much hair in a an otherwise normal hair growth/loss cycle during pregnancy.
After baby delivery, hair loss is not noticeable right away, especially if you choose to breastfeed, and to continue to take prenatal supplements. In essence, continuing with the prenatal supplements will not cause a negative effect on your hair. However, once you stop the supplements and your hormones return to normal levels your hair will start to change. There is the potential to experience a drastic hair loss happens all at once, but most of the time it happens over a period of a few weeks.
In general, hair loss after pregnancy is most noticeable during and after taking a shower. Although it can be alarming, it is basically normal to see more and more shedding as you wash your hair. Also note, if you have curly hair, it may stick in your mane until you shower and you may pull out huge clumps all at once while washing or brushing your hair. Basically, you just need to keep an eye on the overall state of your hair. However, if it appears that spots are showing through or that your hair is much thinner than it was before you were pregnant, you may want to consult with your physician. Otherwise, your hair loss after birthing a baby is normal and you there is to fear.
